Prof. Naren Ramakrishnan of Virginia Tech, is creating a tool to identify causal relationships from large data sets, employing multiple means of data mining in a single tool. This tool is designed to help the Army solve problems such as condition-based maintenance for vehicles, and to see causal patterns in intelligence data that lead to specific events. This tool combines two methods of data mining: one used in an automated mode, and the other that permits human-guided exploration of data. A user interface accessible through a web browser, or deployed to a mobile device, enables users to see relationships between data, and interact via mouse or touch screen.]]>
